The Marleux Japanese Featherweight Denim Chore Shirt - Leroy Brown

The Marleux combines some of the finest Japanese denim craftsmanship with a really practical vision: to create a shirt that looks like a tailored cold-weather piece but can be worn in the hottest summer months.

Jumping right in, the shirt features an incredibly lightweight brushed fabric, making it much more comfortable for summer without feeling insubstantial, while still maintaining this beautiful drape and hand feel against bare skin.

The garment features a classic-shaped rounded collar, custom-designed swirlized white resin buttons, and beautiful contrast stitching. Each garment does come with an extra set of buttons for a more tonal option, but I’m not going to really encourage you to change the white swirlized buttons. They’re truly beautiful.

The garment is designed to be unisex, with the double extra small and extra small created around a more traditional women’s silhouette, while the small through extra large follow a more traditional menswear block.

We’ve tested it extensively as a standalone piece in the warmer months, and in the colder months with a T-shirt underneath or even layering over the top. It works amazingly.

But I’m just baffled by how, day in and day out, it’s the first thing I reach for in the closet.

The Marleux has an incredible fit, featuring a boxy, cropped silhouette, the perfect sleeve length with ample room, just the right amount of tension at the sleeve opening, a dropped shoulder, and a beautiful front neck drop.

Measurements below are front length × chest width, in inches.

  • XXS: 22 × 20.5
  • XS: 23.5 × 21.5
  • Small: 25 × 22.5
  • Medium: 26 × 23.5
  • Large: 26.75 × 24.5
  • Extra Large: 27.5 × 25.5
Care

Because the Marleux is a brushed denim twill, the washing process that gives the fabric its soft hand does ultimately reduce any shrinkage in the garment.

I still recommend washing it in cold water and tumble drying on low to maintain the most pristine shape and character of the garment.
Story

One of the ideas in fashion I’ve always wanted to challenge is that heavier always means better quality. Over the last ten years—especially through social media—weight has increasingly become synonymous with quality. But historically, some of the finest fabrics were incredibly lightweight, often made from silk, and I wanted to bring the focus back to that.

The Marloe came from my love of wearing button-ups in the summer and wanting something more elevated for casual wear and styling. I wanted to create an extremely lightweight garment that still looks and drapes like a piece of outerwear—something you can comfortably wear even on those scorching summer days.
