The Raw Denim Crucifix Cap
The Crucifix Cap is constructed from raw denim and built on a custom mold I developed after studying countless vintage ball caps from the 1930s and 1940s. The result is a medium-shallow unstructured profile fit, finished with a uniquely short, perfectly rounded brim, finished with contrast stitching, side embroidery, and custom hardware throughout.
The fit is truly surreal right out of the bag.
For the artwork, I wanted to take a new approach to the cross, drawing inspiration from old Russian brutalist art direction, reinterpreted through the lens of The Ordinarily Beautiful.
Care
Because the crucifix cap is crafted from a lightweight raw denim, it carries the same living quality that makes raw denim so special. The indigo is rich, natural, and meant to evolve over time.
With that being said, if you want to preserve the depth of its color for as long as possible, I would avoid washing it with hot water or putting it through any harsh cleaning process. This is not a piece that needs to be overhandled. If it ever needs to be cleaned, a quick, gentle soak in cold water is best.
Part of the beauty of this hat is that it will slowly begin to carry the story of the person wearing it. The way it fades, softens, and changes over the years will become entirely personal to you. It is meant to age with you, becoming more meaningful the longer it is worn.
Story
My original intent was never to actually put this hat out.
It was something I wanted to wear personally in my day to day, something that felt connected to the work I’ve been doing in denim for so long.
Even when I built the mold, I primarily saw it as something I would use for future pieces, especially a very special cap coming this fall.
But as I started wearing it, I was honestly shocked by how many people came up to me and told me how much they loved it. People noticed the fit, the details, the unique shape of the hat, and what I heard most commonly was that it felt like a really unique expression of the cross and the crucifixion.
So I figured maybe it could be a special thing to release at the beginning of this journey, because of how significant it is to me and my life.
